Corbion neemt strategie onder de loep

Corbion verwacht in november duidelijkheid te kunnen geven over de toekomstige groei en de financiële doelen voor de komende jaren. Dat meldde de producent van biochemicaliën en voedingsingrediënten woensdag bij de presentatie van de resultaten van het tweede kwartaal.

Corbion, het voormalige CSM, zit momenteel middenin een diepgaand onderzoek naar de toekomstige mogelijkheden voor groei en waardecreatie voor aandeelhouders, liet de nieuwe bestuursvoorzitter Tjerk de Ruiter weten. Daarbij wordt onder meer gekeken naar productstrategieën, de kostenstructuur en de kerncapaciteiten van het bedrijf. Dit moet in november leiden tot de presentatie van de nieuwe strategie.
De Ruiter wilde in een toelichting niet vooruitlopen op de uitkomsten van het onderzoek, dat door het nieuwe bestuursteam zelf wordt uitgevoerd. Ook voor meer informatie over de financiële doelen die worden gesteld is het volgens hem nog te vroeg. De datum voor de presentatie van de nieuwe strategie moet nog worden vastgesteld.
Biochemicals
Corbion zag de omzet vorig kwartaal met bijna 1 procent dalen tot 188,3 miljoen euro. Daarbij was sprake van een autonome groei van 1,1 procent, die was te danken aan de vooruitgang bij Biochemicals. Het bedrijfsresultaat (ebitda) zakte met 6,5 miljoen euro tot 22,7 miljoen euro, maar toonde op vergelijkbare basis een groei van 3,4 procent.
Bij Biochemicals werd een autonome omzetgroei van ruim 13 procent gerealiseerd, waarmee de krimp van ruim 2 procent bij het grotere Food Ingredients werd gecompenseerd.
Bioplastic
De verkopen van afbreekbaar bioplastic op basis van melkzuur (PLA) namen licht toe. Ondanks de vooruitgang in deze markt zag Corbion zich echter gedwongen 17,5 miljoen euro af te schrijven op de PLA-fabriek in Thailand, die niet op volle capaciteit wordt gebruikt. Daarnaast zette het bedrijf 3,7 miljoen euro opzij in verband met beloningen voor het voormalige bestuur.
Corbion verwacht dat de marktomstandigheden in de tweede helft van dit jaar niet zullen afwijken van de omstandigheden in de eerste 6 maanden. Op de markt voor voedingsingrediënten zijn de eerste tekenen van toenemende verkoopvolumes zichtbaar, terwijl de vergelijkingsbasis op dat vlak voor Biochemicals lastiger wordt. De investeringen staan de komende maanden op een lager pitje dan in de eerste helft van 2014, in afwachting van de update over de strategie.
Rusland
De Ruiter verwacht niet dat de onrust rond Rusland en Oekraïne significante gevolgen zal hebben voor de resultaten van Corbion.
Het bedrijf boekte vorig kwartaal een nettowinst van 0,4 miljoen euro. Een jaar eerder werd nog een verlies van 29 miljoen euro geleden door een forse min bij de verkochte divisie Bakery Supplies.
